Storing your sperm

Sperm storage (or sperm banking) is where semen is frozen and stored in a professional facility ready for future use, if needed. It is the main option for men to preserve their fertility if this is reduced by cancer (and its treatments such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy), age or hormone replacement therapies. The best time to preserve fertility (through sperm storage) is before cancer treatment starts. To father a child later, frozen semen is thawed and used in treatments such as in vitro fertilisation (IVF).
