Hair loss (androgenic alopecia)

Male pattern hair loss or balding affects all men to some extent as they age. It is due to the male sex hormone testosterone. In some families, genes make hair follicles more sensitive to testosterone causing hairs to become thinner and shorter with each growth cycle. Men usually seek hair loss treatment for cosmetic rather than medical reasons. Most accept balding as a normal part of ageing but it can be distressing for some if it happens at an early age.

Keeping fit

A healthy diet and physical activity can help prevent heart disease, diabetes and some reproductive health problems, and can reduce the risk of some cancers. Research shows links between heart health and male reproductive health, including erectile dysfunction. Physical activity may help prevent prostate problems. Being overweight makes men more likely to have low testosterone levels and erectile dysfunction, and an increased chance of developing type 2 diabetes.
